Cocktails served in a Coupe
The coupe is a stemmed glass with a shallow, rounded bowl, and it has become the favourite glass for many stirred and shaken drinks served without ice. This page lists all recipes served in a coupe, from the Daiquiri and the Sidecar to the Last Word. You also learn why bartenders like it so much and what size to look for when buying coupes for home.

Shape and purpose
The coupe has a stem and a wide, shallow bowl with curved sides. It was once widely used for Champagne, but it lets bubbles escape quickly, so today it is mainly a cocktail glass. The curved rim holds liquid better than a V-shaped cocktail glass, so drinks spill less when carried.
Which drinks belong here
Shaken sours such as the Daiquiri, the Gimlet and the Clover Club, stirred drinks like the Manhattan, and egg white drinks whose foam sits nicely in the round bowl.
Tips
- A capacity of about 150 to 200 ml suits most classic recipes.
- Chill the glass well before you strain the drink into it.
- Hold it by the stem so your hand does not warm the drink.
- Double strain shaken drinks to keep ice shards out of the smooth surface.
