Privacy Policy

This English version is a translation provided for convenience. The German version of this privacy policy is the legally binding one.

1. Controller

The controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:

2. Summary

  • No tracking cookies, no third-party analytics, no advertising.
  • Our own visitor statistics work without cookies and do not store IP addresses.
  • Your settings are stored only in your own browser.
  • Fonts are hosted on our own server. No data is sent to font providers.

3. Hosting

This website runs on a dedicated server in a data centre in Germany. The hosting provider processes data only on our behalf and under a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR.

4. Server log files

Each time you access a page, the web server automatically records the following data in log files:

  • IP address
  • date and time of the request
  • requested URL
  • browser and operating system (user agent)
  • referring page (referrer), if transmitted

We need this data to deliver the website, to detect and fend off attacks and to analyse errors. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in the secure and stable operation of the website. The log files are kept only as long as necessary for these purposes and are then deleted. They are not combined with other data sources.

5. Visitor statistics without cookies

To understand which pages are read, we run our own statistics on our own server. No external service is involved and no cookies are set.

  • Your IP address is used only briefly, at the moment of the page view, to determine the country you are visiting from. For this we use the free DB-IP Lite database, which runs locally on our server.
  • In addition, a hash value is calculated from your IP address, your user agent and a random value (salt) that changes every day. It allows us to count visits within one day without recognising you on another day.
  • The IP address itself is never written to the statistics database. After the calculation it is discarded.
  • We store the page viewed, the time, the country, the referring page and the daily hash.

Because the salt changes daily and old salts are not kept, the hash values cannot be traced back to you or linked across days. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is to improve our content on the basis of anonymous usage figures.

6. Storage in your browser (local storage)

The website stores some settings in the local storage of your browser, so that they are still there on your next visit:

  • unit of measurement (ml or oz)
  • dark mode
  • your selection under "My Bar"
  • your own rating of a recipe

This information stays on your device and is not transmitted to us. The only exception is a rating: when you rate a recipe, the rating is sent to our server anonymously, together with the daily hash described in section 5, so that the same device cannot rate a recipe several times a day. No IP address, name or other identifier is stored with the rating. You can delete the local storage at any time in your browser settings. Storing these settings is necessary to provide the functions you have requested (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). The legal basis for processing ratings is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

7. Affiliate links

Some pages contain affiliate links to Amazon. As long as you do not click such a link, no data is transferred to Amazon. If you click it, you are taken to the Amazon website, and Amazon processes your data under its own privacy notice and may set cookies there. We have no influence on this processing. More in our affiliate disclosure.

8. Fonts

All fonts are loaded from our own server. No connection to external font services such as Google Fonts is made.

9. Contact by e-mail

There is no contact form on this website. If you write to us by e-mail, we process your e-mail address and the content of your message only to answer your enquiry. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. We delete the correspondence when it is no longer needed and no statutory retention obligations apply.

10. Your rights

With regard to your personal data you have the following rights:

  • right of access (Art. 15 GDPR)
  • right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
  • right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
  • right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
  • right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
  • right to object (Art. 21 GDPR)

Right to object: Where we process data on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, you can object to this processing at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR).

To exercise your rights, an e-mail to hello@dns.legal is sufficient. Please note that data we hold without any link to your person (for example the daily hash values) cannot be assigned to you.

We adapt this privacy policy when the website or the legal situation changes. The version published here applies.
