About this smoothie

Spirulina is a blue-green alga sold as a dried powder. It is known for its protein content and its very intense colour, but also for a strong, slightly marine taste, so a small amount is plenty. Avocado adds a velvety body and monounsaturated fat, banana brings sweetness, and baby spinach adds more green without much flavour.

The result is a filling green smoothie for breakfast. If you take medication or have health concerns, ask a doctor before using spirulina regularly.

Bartender tips

  • Start with a pinch of spirulina and increase slowly: its taste is strong.
  • A squeeze of lime balances the earthy flavour.

Variations

Tropical version
Add 80 g pineapple or mango to cover the spirulina taste even more.
