About this smoothie

Chia seeds swell when they meet liquid and form a soft gel, which thickens the smoothie slightly and makes it more satisfying. They contain fibre and plant based omega 3 fatty acids. The fruit mix is simple: tangy pineapple, crisp apple and soft pear.

This is a good breakfast smoothie that you can take along in a jar. Note that it thickens over 10 to 15 minutes; stir or shake before drinking.

Bartender tips

  • Let the smoothie rest for 5 minutes if you want it thicker.
  • Grind the chia seeds with the fruit for a smoother texture.

Variations

Mango chia
Swap the pineapple for mango for a sweeter, creamier version.
