Pear Strawberry Smoothie with Yoghurt

A ripe pear gives this smoothie its juicy sweetness, the strawberries bring colour and a bright fruitiness. Yoghurt pulls it together into something creamy and just a little tart.

Pear Strawberry Smoothie with Yoghurt

Taste

Creamy and fruity, with pear sweetness up front and a light yoghurt tang at the end.

About this smoothie

Pears are often overlooked in smoothies, yet a ripe one blends into a smooth, juicy base with a delicate floral sweetness. Strawberries add colour, acidity and vitamin C. Natural yoghurt turns the mix creamy and contributes protein and calcium, and its mild sourness keeps the sweetness in check. Water keeps the drink light rather than heavy. It makes a good breakfast with a slice of toast or a refreshing snack on a warm afternoon.

Bartender tips

  • A really ripe pear is essential: hard pears taste flat and blend grainy.
  • For a thicker drink use Greek yoghurt and reduce the water slightly.

Variations

With honey and vanilla
Add a teaspoon of honey and a little vanilla for a dessert-like version.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make it vegan?

Yes, use a plain soy or coconut yoghurt instead of dairy yoghurt.

Do I have to peel the pear?

No. The peel blends well in a good blender; just wash the pear and remove the core.

Can I use frozen strawberries?

Yes. They make the smoothie thicker and colder, so you can leave out a splash of water.
