About this smoothie

This smoothie is a drinkable version of a classic Bircher-style breakfast. Rolled oats bring fibre and body, blueberries and blackberries add colour, tartness and more fibre, and a ripe banana supplies sweetness. Yoghurt, whole milk and almond milk make it creamy and add protein, and a little honey rounds it off if needed.

It is one of the more filling smoothies and works well as a complete breakfast on busy mornings or before a long hike or bike ride.

Bartender tips

  • Soak the oats in the milk for 10 minutes first for an especially smooth texture.
  • Frozen berries make it colder and thicker.

Variations

Muesli nut
Add 1 tbsp chopped almonds or almond butter for more crunch and flavour.

Frequently asked questions

Can I prepare it the night before?

Yes, like overnight oats. Stir in a little milk in the morning if it has thickened too much.

Can I make it vegan?

Use only almond milk, plant yoghurt and agave syrup instead of honey.

Can I use muesli instead of oats?

Yes, an unsweetened muesli works; nuts and raisins make it sweeter and chunkier.
