About this smoothie

Unsweetened baking cocoa gives a strong chocolate flavour without the sugar of drinking chocolate powder, so the sweetness here comes mainly from the banana. Cocoa is naturally bitter; one tablespoon per glass is enough to make the smoothie clearly chocolatey.

Almond milk and whole milk share the liquid part, which keeps it creamy but not heavy, and yoghurt adds a light freshness. It works as a treat in the afternoon or as a quick breakfast for anyone who prefers chocolate to fruit in the morning.

Bartender tips

  • A frozen banana makes the smoothie thick and cold, almost like a milkshake.
  • Add the cocoa after the liquid so it does not stick to the bottom of the blender.

Variations

Mocha
Replace 50 ml of the milk with cold espresso for a coffee chocolate version.
