Cocoa and ripe banana are an old pairing, and here they turn into a cold, creamy drink with a light tang from yoghurt. Almond milk keeps it lighter than a classic milkshake.

Almond Yoghurt Smoothie with Cocoa
Taste
Chocolatey and smooth, medium thick, with banana sweetness and a light yoghurt tang.
About this smoothie
Unsweetened cocoa powder gives a deep chocolate flavour without the sugar of drinking chocolate, so the sweetness comes mostly from the banana. Almond milk adds a subtle nutty note, while whole milk and yoghurt make the body rounder and a little tangy.
This smoothie fits a slow weekend breakfast or an afternoon break when you want something sweet. Adjust the honey at the end: ripe, spotty bananas often make it unnecessary.
Bartender tips
Sift the cocoa or add it after the liquids so it does not stick to the blender base.
For a vegan version use soy yoghurt, an extra 100 ml almond milk instead of whole milk, and agave syrup.
Variations
Mocha version
Replace the whole milk with 100 ml cooled espresso or strong coffee.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use frozen banana?
Yes, a frozen banana makes the smoothie colder and closer to a milkshake.
Can I use drinking chocolate instead of cocoa?
You can, but it is already sweetened, so leave out the honey and taste first.
Is it vegan?
Not as written, because of milk, yoghurt and honey. Plant alternatives work well, see the tips.
