Macadamias are the most buttery of all nuts, and together with almonds they make this banana smoothie taste almost like a nut shake. Oats keep it filling well into the morning.

About this smoothie
Whole nuts make a smoothie more filling: they bring protein, fibre and mostly unsaturated fats, plus a toasty, nutty depth. A strong blender turns them almost completely smooth, especially if they are soaked first. Macadamia nuts are soft and mild with a rich, buttery flavour, while almonds add a slightly sweet, marzipan-like note. Banana and oats provide sweetness and body, and almond milk keeps the recipe plant based. The result is thick, creamy and satisfying, ideal for breakfast or after a workout.
Bartender tips
Soak the nuts in water for a few hours or overnight, drain them, and the smoothie will be noticeably smoother.
A frozen banana makes the smoothie cold and extra thick.
Variations
With cocoa
Add a teaspoon of cocoa powder for a chocolate nut version.
