About this smoothie

Whole nuts make a smoothie more filling: they bring protein, fibre and mostly unsaturated fats, plus a toasty, nutty depth. A strong blender turns them almost completely smooth, especially if they are soaked first. Oats add complex carbohydrates and thicken the drink, the banana gives natural sweetness, and pomegranate seeds bring a tart, fruity note and a pink tint. Almond milk ties it all together. It is a good choice for busy mornings or before a long day, when a light fruit smoothie would not last until lunch.

Bartender tips

  • Soak the nuts in water for a few hours or overnight, drain them, and the smoothie will be noticeably smoother.
  • Add a splash more almond milk if the smoothie thickens too much while standing.

Variations

With dates
Blend in one pitted date for extra sweetness and a caramel note.
