The avocado does not taste of much here, and that is the point. It turns frozen berries and plain water into a smoothie as thick and velvety as one made with yoghurt.

Avocado Smoothie with Berry Mix
Taste
Thick and velvety, clearly berry flavoured and fairly tart, with a smooth, rounded finish from the avocado.
About this smoothie
Avocado is the secret of many dairy free smoothies: its soft flesh gives a creamy, almost mousse-like texture while its own flavour stays in the background. It is also rich in mostly unsaturated fats and fibre. Frozen mixed berries supply colour, tartness and vitamin C, and they chill the drink at the same time. With only water as liquid the flavour is fresh and berry forward, so a little honey is optional. A filling choice for breakfast.
Bartender tips
The avocado should yield slightly to pressure; an unripe one tastes grassy.
Half a banana is a good alternative to honey for extra sweetness.
Variations
With almond milk
Replace the water with almond milk for a rounder, even creamier smoothie.
Frequently asked questions
Does the smoothie taste of avocado?
Hardly. The berries dominate, the avocado mainly gives texture.
Is it vegan?
Yes, if you leave out the honey or use agave or maple syrup instead.
What do I do with the other avocado half?
Leave the stone in, brush the cut surface with lemon juice and store it wrapped in the fridge for a day.
