Almond Date Smoothie with Banana

Dates bring a deep, caramel-like sweetness that makes any extra sugar unnecessary. Almond milk and yoghurt turn them into a creamy, almost dessert-like glass.

About this smoothie

Dates have been a staple food in the Middle East and North Africa for thousands of years; dried, they are very sweet and taste of caramel and honey, and they provide fibre and potassium. Blended with almond milk they give the smoothie a naturally sweet, nutty character. Half a banana adds body, natural yoghurt a fresh tang and some protein. A filling glass for breakfast or before sport.

Bartender tips

  • Soft Medjool dates blend best; soak harder dates longer.
  • A pinch of cinnamon or cardamom suits the caramel flavour.

Variations

Vegan version
Use a plant-based yoghurt instead of dairy yoghurt.
