Banana Almond Smoothie with Dates
Taste
Thick, creamy and sweet with caramel notes from the dates and a mild almond flavor.
About this smoothie
Dates are the natural sweetener here. Soft varieties such as Medjool have a toffee-like flavor and blend easily, and they contribute fiber as well as sugar. Banana makes the drink creamy, pear keeps it from being too heavy, and yogurt adds a gentle tang. Unsweetened almond milk brings a light nutty background.
Because dates are very sweet, two are enough for one glass. If yours are dry and firm, soak them in warm water for ten minutes first. The smoothie is filling and works as breakfast or as a snack after sport.
Bartender tips
Medjool dates are soft and blend best; drier varieties need soaking.
Use unsweetened almond milk, as the dates already bring plenty of sweetness.
Variations
Cocoa version
Add 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder for a chocolate and date smoothie.
