Strawberry Yogurt Smoothie with Banana

Few smoothies are as familiar as this one: ripe strawberries, a good spoonful of yoghurt and cold milk. Half a banana makes it thicker and naturally sweeter.

About this smoothie

Strawberry and yoghurt is one of the most popular smoothie combinations, and for good reason. The berries bring aroma and a slight tartness, the yoghurt adds tang and creaminess, and milk makes it drinkable. Milk and yoghurt supply protein and calcium, strawberries are known for their vitamin C.

It makes a quick breakfast, an after-school drink or a snack after sport. In season use ripe local strawberries; the rest of the year frozen ones work well.

Bartender tips

  • Greek yoghurt makes it even thicker and creamier.
  • Taste before adding sweetener: ripe strawberries and banana are usually enough.

Variations

Strawberry Vanilla
Add a few drops of vanilla extract for a dessert-like flavour.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use frozen strawberries?

Yes, and the smoothie gets colder and thicker; let them thaw for 5 minutes if your blender is weak.

Can I make it vegan?

Use soy yoghurt and an oat or soy drink instead of dairy.

Can I leave out the banana?

Yes. Add a few more strawberries and a little honey if it is too tart.
