Strawberry Yoghurt Smoothie with Pear

Adding a ripe pear to the classic strawberry yoghurt smoothie makes it softer and a little more juicy. The colour turns pale pink, and the taste becomes rounder and less tart.

About this smoothie

Pear is an underrated smoothie fruit. Ripe pears are very juicy, gently sweet and have a slightly grainy flesh that blends into a smooth, full texture. Here they balance the tartness of the strawberries, while banana, yoghurt and milk keep everything creamy. Pears also contribute fibre, especially when you leave the skin on.

The smoothie is mild enough for children and makes a good breakfast or afternoon snack all year round.

Bartender tips

  • Choose a pear that yields slightly near the stem: hard pears taste of little.
  • Leave the pear skin on for more fibre; a good blender will make it disappear.

Variations

Pear Vanilla
Leave out the strawberries, use a whole pear and add a pinch of vanilla.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to peel the pear?

Can I make it vegan?

Yes, use plant yoghurt and a soy or oat drink.

Can I use frozen strawberries?

Yes, they make the smoothie colder and a little thicker.
