Strawberry and Natural Yogurt Smoothie

Ripe strawberries and cold milk turn pale pink the moment the blender starts. A spoonful of natural yogurt adds just enough tang to keep it from tasting like a milkshake.

Strawberry and Natural Yogurt Smoothie

Taste

Creamy and smooth with a clear strawberry flavor and a mild yogurt tang; not very sweet unless you add honey.

About this smoothie

This is about as simple as a fruit smoothie gets, and that is its strength. Strawberries bring sweetness and a light acidity, and they are a good source of vitamin C. Natural yogurt thickens the drink and adds a fresh, slightly sour note, while milk loosens everything into something you can sip through a straw.

It works well as a quick breakfast next to a slice of toast or as an afternoon drink in early summer, when local strawberries are at their most fragrant. Out of season, frozen berries give a thicker, colder result.

Bartender tips

  • Frozen strawberries make the smoothie thicker and colder without watering it down the way ice would.
  • Greek yogurt gives a denser texture; add a splash more milk if it gets too thick.

Variations

Dairy-free version
Use oat milk and a plant-based yogurt; the flavor stays almost the same.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use frozen strawberries?

Yes. Use them straight from the freezer and you will get a thicker, colder smoothie. You may need a splash more milk.

Can I make it the night before?

It keeps in a closed jar in the fridge for up to a day, but it will separate slightly. Shake or stir before drinking.

Is it vegan?

Not as written, since it contains milk and yogurt. Swap both for plant-based versions to make it vegan.
