Breakfast Smoothie with Strawberries and Sultanas

Sultanas bring a gentle, raisin-like sweetness that makes this strawberry smoothie taste like a bowl of Bircher muesli. It is thick, filling and needs little or no honey.

About this smoothie

Sultanas are dried white grapes, softer and lighter in flavour than dark raisins. Blended, they dissolve into the smoothie and sweeten it naturally, which is why the honey here is optional.

With strawberries, banana, oats and yogurt, the combination recalls classic Bircher muesli. It is a hearty breakfast that fits active mornings. Soaking the sultanas briefly in warm water helps them blend smoothly.

Bartender tips

  • Skip the honey first: sultanas and banana usually provide enough sweetness.
  • Raisins work too, but they give a darker colour and a stronger taste.

Variations

Bircher style
Add half a grated apple and a few drops of lemon juice.
