About this smoothie

Ginger is used in drinks around the world, from ginger beer to Indian lassi variations, and brings a fresh, pungent heat. Here it contrasts with the mild, buttery avocado, which provides the creamy base together with milk and yoghurt. Avocado contains mainly monounsaturated fats and makes the drink quite filling. Because the fruit itself is not sweet, a little honey helps. It works as a savoury leaning breakfast or a snack.

Bartender tips

  • Start with less ginger and add more to taste; young ginger is milder.
  • A peeled, frozen banana adds sweetness and makes the drink colder.

Variations

With lime
A little lime juice brings freshness and keeps the colour bright.
