Spinach Pineapple Smoothie

Pineapple is strong enough to carry a full handful of spinach on its own. The result is a bright yellow green drink that tastes tropical and fresh, not leafy.

Spinach Pineapple Smoothie

Taste

Juicy and tropical, sweet and tangy pineapple with a light green freshness.

About this smoothie

Pineapple and spinach are one of the simplest green smoothie pairings. The fruit's sweetness and acidity completely cover the mild taste of baby spinach, so the drink tastes mostly of pineapple. Pineapple contains vitamin C and the enzyme bromelain, which is why fresh pineapple can make the tongue tingle slightly. Without banana or avocado the texture is light and juicy rather than creamy. It works well as a morning refresher or on a hot afternoon.

Bartender tips

  • For a creamier glass, add half a banana or 2 tbsp yogurt.
  • Frozen pineapple chunks make it cold and slushy without ice.

Variations

With ginger
Add a thin slice of fresh ginger for a spicy, warming finish.
