Pomegranate Lamb's Lettuce Smoothie with Fruit Tea

Pomegranate Lamb's Lettuce Smoothie with Fruit Tea
Taste
Fruity and gently tart with a soft banana body and a mild green note; light rather than creamy.
About this smoothie
Pomegranate seeds (arils) are juicy, crunchy and sweet and sour, and they give smoothies a pink blush and a clean, slightly tart flavour. They are a source of vitamin C and fibre. Using cooled fruit tea (typically hibiscus, rosehip and dried apple) instead of water is a simple trick: it adds fruity aroma and a pleasant tartness without sugar. The banana makes the smoothie rounder and a little thicker, while lamb's lettuce adds mild greens. A light option for breakfast or an afternoon break.
Bartender tips
Brew the tea the evening before and keep it in the fridge, so it is cold in the morning.
Hibiscus based teas give the smoothie a deeper red colour.
Variations
With rooibos
Use cooled rooibos tea for a softer, slightly vanilla-like flavour.
Frequently asked questions
Is it vegan?
Yes. It contains only fruit, lettuce and tea.
Can I use hot tea?
No, let it cool first; hot tea cooks the greens and the smoothie tastes flat.
Which fruit tea works best?
Any unsweetened fruit tea works; berry or hibiscus blends suit the pomegranate best.
