Pineapple Smoothie with Frozen Berries

Frozen berries do two jobs here: they chill the smoothie and turn it a deep berry red. Pineapple adds tropical sweetness and a bright acidity.

About this smoothie

This is an easy all year smoothie, because frozen berry mixes are always available and are usually frozen soon after harvest. Berries bring colour, fibre and vitamin C, pineapple adds juiciness and a sweet sharpness, and banana gives the drink body. A spoon of yoghurt rounds everything off.

The smoothie fits breakfast, a snack or the time after a workout. Because the berries are frozen, you need no ice, and the texture comes out thick and almost frosty.

Bartender tips

  • Put the liquid and soft fruit in the blender first and the frozen berries on top; the blades run more easily.
  • If the smoothie is too thick, add water in small steps.

Variations

Vegan
Use a plant based yoghurt or leave the yoghurt out and add a little more banana.
