Light Pineapple Apple Smoothie with Mint

Juicy pineapple and a crisp red apple make this smoothie refreshingly light. Fresh mint gives it a cool lift, a bit like a fruity mojito without the rum.

About this smoothie

Pineapple and apple are an easy pairing: the pineapple brings tropical sweetness and a lively acidity, the apple a crisp, familiar juiciness and some body. Mint adds a cooling note and keeps the drink fresh on hot days.

Pineapple is a good source of vitamin C, and the apple adds fibre when the skin stays on. With only water as the base, this is one of the lightest fruit smoothies, ideal as a refreshing afternoon drink.

Bartender tips

  • A few ice cubes or frozen pineapple chunks make it even more refreshing.
  • Pineapple core is fibrous; remove it so the smoothie stays smooth.

Variations

Lime version
Add 1 tbsp lime juice for a sharper, mojito like freshness.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use canned pineapple?

Yes, drained pineapple in juice works but tastes slightly sweeter and less fresh.

Is it vegan?

Yes, it contains only fruit, mint and water.

Why does fresh pineapple sometimes tingle on the tongue?

Pineapple contains the enzyme bromelain, which can cause a slight tingling; riper fruit is usually gentler.
