Pear Smoothie with Sultanas and Almonds

Dried fruit and almonds give this pear smoothie the flavour of a Christmas fruit bread. It is sweet without any sugar and more filling than you would expect.

About this smoothie

Dates are very sweet with a caramel-like flavour and bring fibre, so they sweeten a smoothie without any sugar. Sultanas add a fruity, raisin-like sweetness, and almonds bring protein, fibre and a marzipan-like note. The pear keeps the smoothie juicy and fresh. Because dried fruit is concentrated, this is one of the sweeter smoothies here: a good breakfast before an active day or a treat in the afternoon.

Bartender tips

  • Soaking softens the dried fruit and nuts so the smoothie becomes smoother.
  • A pinch of cinnamon or cardamom completes the fruit bread flavour.

Variations

Without dates
Leave out the dates for a less sweet version; the sultanas still sweeten it.
