About this smoothie

Dates are one of the oldest cultivated fruits of the Middle East and North Africa, and their sticky sweetness makes them a natural sweetener for drinks. They also bring fibre and some potassium. The pear adds juiciness and a delicate aroma, oats give body, and almond milk a mild nutty base.

This smoothie works well as a quick breakfast or as a snack in the afternoon. Soft Medjool dates blend most easily; firmer, dry dates should soak in warm water for 10 minutes first.

Bartender tips

  • Soak dry dates in warm water for 10 minutes so they blend without chewy pieces.
  • Use unsweetened almond milk; the dates are sweet enough.

Variations

Spiced
Add a pinch of cinnamon or a little vanilla for a warmer, dessert like flavour.
