Pear and Melon Smoothie with Yoghurt

Taste

Creamy and mild with honeyed melon, soft pear and a gentle yoghurt tang.

About this smoothie

Honeydew melon has a pale green, very juicy flesh with a mild, honeyed sweetness and a high water content, which makes it ideal for light, refreshing smoothies. Here it is combined with a ripe pear and a creamy base of natural yoghurt and milk, which contributes protein and calcium and makes the drink more filling. The yoghurt adds a light tang that keeps the sweetness in check. A good breakfast or a cooling snack on warm afternoons.

Bartender tips

  • Greek yoghurt makes it thicker; reduce the milk a little if you use it.
  • A pinch of ground cardamom gives it a lassi-like aroma.

Variations

With honey
Blend in a teaspoon of honey if your melon is not very sweet.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, use plain soy yoghurt and oat or soy milk.

Is it filling enough for breakfast?

With yoghurt and milk it is more filling than a fruit-only smoothie; add a spoon of oats for more.

Can I prepare it the night before?

It keeps covered in the fridge overnight; shake well before drinking.
