Ingredients

1

Garnish: Orange slice · Ice: Served up, no ice

Method

  1. Peel the oranges, removing as much white pith as possible, and pick out any seeds.
  2. Peel the banana and pit the nectarine half.
  3. Blend fruit and milk for about 45 seconds until smooth.
  4. Pour into a tall glass and drink straight away.

Taste

Fresh and creamy, with juicy orange, sweet banana and a soft nectarine note.

About this smoothie

Oranges are one of the best known sources of vitamin C, and blending the whole segments instead of only juicing them keeps some of their fibre in the glass. A banana adds sweetness and body, half a nectarine a soft stone fruit aroma, and a splash of milk makes the drink round and smooth, a little like an orange cream.

This smoothie is ideal for breakfast. Citrus and milk can separate when they stand, so drink it right away; if it does separate, a quick stir or another short blend fixes it.

Bartender tips

  • Remove the white pith carefully; it makes the smoothie bitter.
  • Use well chilled milk and fruit, as the smoothie is best very cold.

Variations

Dairy free
Replace the milk with oat or almond drink, or simply with cold water for a lighter version.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my orange smoothie separate?

The acid in the oranges can make milk proteins clump slightly. Drink it at once or stir briefly; it does not affect the taste.

Is this smoothie vegan?

With a plant drink instead of milk it is.

Can I use orange juice instead?

Yes, about 150 ml freshly squeezed juice replaces the oranges, but you lose some fibre.
