Orange Carrot Smoothie

Orange and carrot is a juice bar classic, and as a smoothie it gets more body and a deeper colour. Half a banana softens the carrot's earthiness and adds creaminess.

About this smoothie

Orange carrot juice has long been a popular breakfast drink, and blending the whole carrot rather than juicing it keeps all of the fibre. Fresh orange juice supplies sweetness and acidity, the carrot a mild, earthy sweetness, and half a banana a smoother texture.

Carrots are known for their beta carotene, which the body can convert into vitamin A, and oranges for vitamin C. A small amount of fat, such as a few nuts at breakfast, helps the body absorb beta carotene. A cheerful, bright smoothie for any morning.

Bartender tips

  • Raw carrot is firm: slice it thinly or grate it if your blender is not very powerful.
  • A small piece of fresh ginger turns this into a lively orange ginger carrot smoothie.

Variations

Carrot mango
Replace the banana with a few chunks of ripe mango for a more tropical version.
