Oat Blueberry Smoothie with Banana

Taste

Thick, creamy and gently sweet, with a berry tartness and a light oaty note.

About this smoothie

Oats are the reason this smoothie works as breakfast. They add body and a mild, cereal flavor, and they contain soluble fiber that makes the drink more filling. Banana brings sweetness, yogurt a little tang, and blueberries both color and a fresh, slightly tart fruitiness.

If you have time, let the oats soak in the milk for five to ten minutes before blending; the smoothie becomes smoother and less grainy. Fresh blueberries are lovely in summer, while frozen ones give a colder, thicker result and are available all year.

Bartender tips

  • Soaking the oats briefly makes the texture noticeably smoother.
  • The smoothie thickens as it stands; loosen it with a little milk if needed.

Variations

Overnight version
Mix oats, milk and yogurt in a jar the evening before, then blend with the fruit in the morning.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use frozen blueberries?

Yes, they give a colder and thicker smoothie.

Is it gluten-free?

Only if you use oats labelled gluten-free, as regular oats are often processed alongside wheat.
