Only three ingredients, and the nectarine does most of the work: juicy, fragrant and sweet. Pear adds body, coconut water keeps it light.

About this smoothie

Nectarines are closely related to peaches but have smooth skin, which makes them ideal for smoothies: no peeling needed. In high summer they are sweet and fragrant enough to carry a drink on their own. Pear adds a softer texture and a mild sweetness.

Nectarines contribute vitamin C and some beta carotene. With coconut water as the base, this is a thirst quenching smoothie for hot days rather than a filling meal.

Bartender tips

  • Ripe nectarines smell sweet and give slightly at the stem end.
  • Freeze nectarine slices in season for smoothies later in the year.

Variations

With raspberries
Add a handful of raspberries (about 50 g) for colour and tartness.
