Apple Pear Smoothie with Coconut Water and Coconut Oil
Taste
Light and juicy, with apple and pear up front and a mild coconut note in the finish.
About this smoothie
Coconut water is the clear liquid from young green coconuts. It is light, slightly sweet and naturally contains potassium, which is why it is popular after sport. Here it replaces plain water and adds a subtle tropical flavour to familiar apple and pear. The coconut oil contributes a hint of coconut aroma and a softer mouthfeel. The smoothie is refreshing rather than filling, so it works well on warm days or between meals.
Bartender tips
Use well chilled coconut water, otherwise the coconut oil can form small flakes.
Choose pure coconut water without added sugar.
Variations
With pineapple
Swap the apple for 100 g pineapple for a clearly tropical version.
Frequently asked questions
Is it vegan?
Yes. All ingredients are plant based.
Can I leave out the coconut oil?
Yes. The smoothie is then a little lighter and less creamy.
Can I use coconut milk instead of coconut water?
You can, but it becomes much richer and heavier; use about half the amount and top up with water.
