Lime Blackberry Smoothie with Strawberries

This is a smoothie for people who like it tart. Lime and lemon sharpen the berries, and a small handful of spinach disappears completely behind their colour.

About this smoothie

Berries and citrus are a natural match: the acidity of lime and lemon lifts the aroma of strawberries and blackberries and keeps the smoothie tasting fresh. Baby spinach adds a green element without changing the flavour much, since the dark berries dominate both taste and colour.

Strawberries are well known for their vitamin C content, and blackberries add fibre. With water as the base, it is a light, low sugar option for warm afternoons.

Bartender tips

  • Add half a banana if you want a creamier, less tart smoothie.
  • Frozen berries make it thicker and colder without diluting the flavour.

Variations

Creamy berry
Replace 100 ml of the water with natural yogurt or soy yogurt.

Frequently asked questions

Will I taste the spinach?

Hardly. The berries and citrus cover its mild flavour almost completely.

Is it vegan?

Yes, if you use agave syrup instead of honey or leave the sweetener out.

Is it very sour?

It is noticeably tart. Start with half the lime juice if you prefer it milder.
