Grapefruit Smoothie with Banana Nectar

Banana nectar takes a lot of the bitterness out of the grapefruit and makes this smoothie rounder and sweeter. It is the easier going sister of the pomegranate version.

About this smoothie

Banana nectar is a thick, sweet drink made from banana purée, water and usually some sugar. Here it balances the bitterness and acidity of grapefruit, while half a pear adds body and pomegranate seeds a fresh, berry like tartness.\n\nThe result is fruity and mild enough for people who normally find grapefruit too bitter. Grapefruit can interact with several medications, so if you take any regularly, ask your doctor or pharmacist first.

Bartender tips

  • Half a fresh banana can replace the nectar for less added sugar.
  • Chill the banana nectar and fruit beforehand.

Variations

Fresh banana
Use half a ripe banana and 175 ml water instead of banana nectar.
