About this smoothie

Pears are among the mildest fruits for smoothies: juicy, low in acidity and naturally sweet when fully ripe. Varieties such as Williams or Conference work especially well because their flesh is soft and aromatic. Pears supply fibre, much of it in the skin, so there is no need to peel them.

Pomegranate seeds balance the mild pear with tartness. With water as the liquid, this stays a light drink for the afternoon or as a fresh addition to breakfast.

Bartender tips

  • Choose a pear that yields slightly near the stem; hard pears taste flat.
  • A pinch of cinnamon suits pear well in autumn.

Variations

Winter version
Blend with a pinch of cinnamon and a few drops of lemon juice.
