Creamy Spinach Smoothie with Spirulina

Yogurt makes this all green smoothie creamy and softens the strong taste of the spirulina. A teaspoon of honey rounds it off.

About this smoothie

Baby spinach and lamb's lettuce are two of the mildest leafy greens, which makes them a good base for a smoothie without fruit. Natural yogurt adds creaminess, a little tang and some protein. Spirulina, a dried alga known for its protein content and deep colour, turns everything dark green and adds a slightly mineral note, which honey balances.

This is a savoury leaning, not very sweet smoothie. It suits breakfast for anyone who prefers green flavours to fruity ones.

Bartender tips

  • Add half a banana or a green apple if you prefer it fruitier.
  • Mix the spirulina with the water first to avoid lumps.

Variations

Vegan green
Use soy yogurt and maple syrup instead of dairy yogurt and honey.
