Berry Spinach Banana Smoothie with Blueberries

Two kinds of dark berries turn this smoothie a deep purple, so nobody will guess there is spinach in it. The banana makes it creamy and sweet enough without added sugar.

About this smoothie

This is a classic way to hide greens in a smoothie: dark berries completely cover the colour and most of the flavour of baby spinach. Blueberries and blackberries owe their deep colour to anthocyanins, natural plant pigments, and they bring a pleasant tartness. The banana adds creaminess and natural sweetness and is known for its potassium.

The smoothie is fully plant based and works well for breakfast, as a snack after sport or as a first green smoothie for children.

Bartender tips

  • Frozen berries make the smoothie thicker and colder and are available all year.
  • Blend a little longer to break down the blackberry seeds.

Variations

Berry oat
Add 2 tbsp rolled oats and replace the water with oat drink for a fuller breakfast.
