About this smoothie

Apple, spinach and banana is one of the most common green smoothie combinations and a good entry point. Baby spinach has a very mild flavour compared with kale or older spinach, and the sweet fruit covers most of its grassy taste. The apple adds juiciness and fibre, the banana a creamy body. Water keeps it light. It makes a simple breakfast or a snack between meals.

Bartender tips

  • Put the spinach in first, close to the blades, so it breaks down completely.
  • For a colder, thicker drink, freeze the banana in pieces beforehand.

Variations

With ginger
Add a thin slice of fresh ginger for a spicy note.

Frequently asked questions

Will I taste the spinach?

Only slightly. Baby spinach is mild, and the apple and banana dominate.

Is it vegan?

Yes, all ingredients are plant based.

Can I prepare it in advance?

It keeps for about a day in a closed jar in the fridge. The colour may darken a little, so shake before drinking.
