About this smoothie

Blackberries are at their best in late summer; they taste sweet and tart with a slightly earthy note and contain fibre and vitamin C. Blueberries add a milder sweetness and deepen the colour. Half a banana gives body and rounds the acidity. Fresh basil pairs well with dark berries and gives the glass an aromatic, slightly peppery lift. A fruity smoothie for breakfast or a summer afternoon.

Bartender tips

  • Frozen berries work very well and make the smoothie thicker.
  • Strain through a sieve if the blackberry seeds bother you.

Variations

With mint
Use mint instead of basil for a cooler taste.
