Taste

Creamy and tart, with fresh raspberry, a mild green body and a peppery rocket finish; only lightly sweet.

About this smoothie

This smoothie is built on avocado rather than banana, so it is creamy without being sweet. Baby spinach adds mild greens, rocket a peppery bite, and raspberries the fruit and acidity that tie it together.

Avocado provides mostly monounsaturated fats, leafy greens add folate, and raspberries bring vitamin C and fibre. The colour turns an earthy olive pink, which is normal when red berries meet green leaves. A good choice for those who like their smoothies less sweet.

Bartender tips

  • Rocket gets stronger with age; use fresh, young leaves and start with less if you are unsure.
  • Frozen raspberries make it colder and a little thicker.

Variations

Sweeter version
Add half a banana or a ripe pear for a fruitier, sweeter glass.

Frequently asked questions

Is it vegan?

Yes, if you leave out the honey or use agave syrup.

Can I leave out the rocket?

Yes, replace it with more baby spinach for a milder taste.

Can I prepare it ahead?

It is best fresh, as avocado browns and the flavour flattens after a few hours.
