About this smoothie

Dates are very sweet with a caramel-like flavour and bring fibre, so they sweeten a smoothie without any sugar. Apple and cinnamon are a classic pairing from baking, and in a smoothie they create a warm, comforting flavour even when served cold. Almonds add protein, fibre and a marzipan-like note, milk gives body and calcium. It is a cosy breakfast for autumn and winter mornings, or a sweet snack that needs no added sugar.

Bartender tips

  • Soft Medjool dates blend most easily; soak firmer varieties longer.
  • Warm the milk slightly on cold days for a comforting, lukewarm version.

Variations

Vegan version
Use oat or almond milk instead of cow milk; the flavour stays almost the same.
