Apple Pear Smoothie with Cinnamon

Two orchard fruits, cold water and a pinch of cinnamon: this is about as simple as a smoothie gets. It tastes a bit like a fresh, drinkable apple crumble without the sugar.

About this smoothie

Apple and pear are a classic autumn pairing, available in good quality for most of the year. Blended whole, they keep their fibre, which gives the drink more body than a pressed juice. A little lemon juice keeps the colour from browning and sharpens the flavour, and cinnamon adds warmth. With water as the only liquid, the smoothie stays light and very affordable. Enjoy it at breakfast or as a quick afternoon snack.

Bartender tips

  • A powerful blender helps with firm apples; with a weaker one, chop the fruit smaller.
  • For a sweeter drink, choose a ripe pear rather than adding sugar.

Variations

Coconut water version
Replace the water with coconut water for a slightly sweeter, rounder taste.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to peel the apple?

No. Wash it well; the peel blends fine in most blenders and adds fibre.

Is it vegan?

Yes, the smoothie is completely plant based.

Why does my apple smoothie turn brown?

Cut apple oxidises quickly. Lemon juice slows this down, and drinking it fresh helps most.
