Apple Pear Smoothie with Frozen Berries

Frozen berries straight from the freezer make this smoothie cold and thick without a single ice cube. Apple and pear bring the sweetness, the spinach quietly disappears in the purple.

About this smoothie

This is a practical everyday smoothie built on fruit you can keep at home all year: apples, pears and a bag of frozen mixed berries. Frozen berries are picked ripe and frozen quickly, so they are a good alternative to fresh ones out of season.

Apple and pear provide fibre and a mild, rounded sweetness, while the berries bring colour and a tart note. The baby spinach is there for a little extra green; its taste is barely noticeable. A good breakfast smoothie and easy to vary with whatever fruit is in the bowl.

Bartender tips

  • Put the liquid in first and the frozen berries last so the blender runs freely.
  • A very ripe pear makes extra sweetening unnecessary.

Variations

Creamy version
Replace half of the water with natural yoghurt or oat milk.

Frequently asked questions

Is this smoothie vegan?

Yes, it contains only fruit, spinach and water.

Do I have to peel the apple and pear?

No, a powerful blender breaks down the skin; just wash the fruit well.

Can I use fresh berries?

Yes, then add a few ice cubes if you want it just as cold.
