Almond Milk Avocado Smoothie with Coconut

Half an avocado makes this smoothie thick enough to eat with a spoon. Pear brings the sweetness, while almond milk and a spoonful of coconut purée add a nutty, rounded depth.

About this smoothie

Avocado is one of the few fruits rich in fat, mostly unsaturated fat, which is why it blends into such a silky texture. Coconut purée, also sold as coconut butter, is made from ground coconut flesh and adds a gentle coconut aroma without extra liquid.

This is a filling smoothie that works well as a breakfast on the go or after a workout. Because it is quite rich, one glass is usually enough.

Bartender tips

  • Warm the coconut purée briefly if it has set solid; it blends in more easily.
  • Use a really ripe avocado that yields to gentle pressure, otherwise it tastes grassy.

Variations

With banana
Replace the pear with a banana for an even creamier, sweeter glass.

Frequently asked questions

Is it vegan?

Yes, all ingredients are plant based.

What can I use instead of coconut purée?

A teaspoon of almond butter or a tablespoon of desiccated coconut works well.

Can I prepare it ahead?

Better not: avocado browns and the flavour dulls within a few hours.
