Avocado Pear Smoothie with Blueberries

A juicy pear does the sweetening here, avocado adds the creaminess, and blueberries turn the glass a muted violet. It is gentle, round and easy to like.

Avocado Pear Smoothie with Blueberries

Taste

Soft and creamy, with juicy pear sweetness, a light blueberry tang and a buttery finish.

About this smoothie

Pears are one of the most underrated smoothie fruits. When ripe they are very juicy and sweet, with a mild flavour that lets other ingredients shine, and they supply fibre, much of it in the skin, which can stay on. Blueberries add colour and a light acidity, avocado a velvety body without milk. Because there is no banana, the smoothie tastes lighter and more floral than many creamy blends. A good breakfast glass in autumn, when pears are at their best.

Bartender tips

  • Use a soft, fragrant pear such as Williams (Bartlett) or Conference; hard pears taste bland.
  • A pinch of cinnamon suits pear very well.

Variations

Pear ginger
Add a thin slice of fresh ginger for a warming note.
