Sweet honeydew and tart raspberries balance each other so well that nothing else is needed. The frozen berries chill the drink and give it a light, almost sorbet like body.

About this smoothie
Three ingredients, two minutes, and a result that looks far more elaborate than it is. Honeydew melon is juicy and mild with a honey like sweetness, and raspberries add colour, acidity and fibre. Raspberries are also a good source of vitamin C.
This smoothie is light rather than filling, which makes it a good choice for a warm day, a small breakfast next to bread or eggs, or a refreshing drink after exercise. Taste your melon first: the riper it is, the less you need to think about sweetness.
Bartender tips
Use a melon that smells sweet at the stem end; an unripe honeydew makes a watery smoothie.
Add the water gradually: a very juicy melon may need only half of it.
Variations
With cantaloupe
Swap the honeydew for cantaloupe for a deeper orange colour and a more aromatic flavour.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use fresh raspberries?
Yes. Add two or three ice cubes so the smoothie stays cold.
Is this smoothie vegan?
Yes, it is made only from fruit and water.
Does it need sweetener?
Usually not. With a ripe melon it is sweet enough; if the raspberries are very tart, add a teaspoon of honey or agave syrup.
