Apple and Melon Smoothie with Basil

Taste

Fresh and light with honeyed melon, crisp apple and a fragrant basil finish.

About this smoothie

Basil is best known from Italian cooking, but its sweet, slightly peppery and clove-like aroma pairs remarkably well with melon. A few leaves are enough to give the smoothie a fragrant, grown-up note. Honeydew melon has a pale green, very juicy flesh with a mild, honeyed sweetness and a high water content, which makes it ideal for light, refreshing smoothies. The apple brings a fresh, crisp acidity and fibre, which gives the drink a bit more body. Light, refreshing and naturally sweet, it suits hot days and brunch.

Bartender tips

  • A green apple makes the smoothie more tart and refreshing.
  • Blend the basil only briefly at the end to keep its aroma fresh.

Variations

With mint
Swap basil for 6 mint leaves for a cooler, more classic flavour.

Can I prepare it ahead?

Drink it within a few hours; melon smoothies separate and the basil fades.
