Blueberry Melon Smoothie

Juicy honeydew makes up most of this smoothie, so it stays light and refreshing. Blueberries and raspberries turn it violet and add a fruity tang.

About this smoothie

Honeydew melon is sweet, juicy and very mild, which makes it an ideal base for berries. Blueberries bring a soft berry flavour and colour, and frozen raspberries add acidity while chilling the drink. Berries contribute fibre and vitamin C, and melon a lot of water, so the smoothie is light rather than filling.

It is best on a warm day, as part of breakfast or as a snack after exercise. The riper the melon, the sweeter the smoothie; an underripe honeydew makes it taste watery.

Bartender tips

  • Add the water gradually, as a juicy melon may need very little.
  • Strain through a sieve if you want a drink without raspberry seeds.

Variations

With mint
Add a few mint leaves for an even fresher summer version.
