Blackberry Pear Smoothie

Blackberries and pears ripen around the same time in late summer, and they taste as if they were meant to meet. The pear softens the berries' tartness and adds a floral sweetness.

About this smoothie

Blackberry and pear is a classic late summer and autumn pairing, found in crumbles, jams and compotes. In a smoothie the combination stays fresh and light: dark, slightly tart berries and a juicy, sweet pear, with water as the only liquid.

Blackberries provide vitamin C and fibre, and pears add further fibre, especially with the skin on. Without dairy or added sugar, it is a light, fruity glass for breakfast or an afternoon snack.

Bartender tips

  • Strain through a sieve if you prefer a smoothie without blackberry seeds.
  • A pinch of cinnamon brings out the autumn character.

Variations

Creamy version
