Chlorella colours this smoothie a dark, almost forest green, but the fruit sets the taste. Pineapple brings acidity, pear softness and grape juice a round, juicy sweetness.

Pineapple Chlorella Smoothie with Grape Juice
Taste
Sweet and fruity with a tangy pineapple edge and a light earthy note in the background.
About this smoothie
Chlorella is a freshwater microalga sold dried as a powder or tablets. Its taste is intense, grassy and a bit like seaweed, so this recipe uses only half a teaspoon and pairs it with plenty of sweet fruit. Pineapple and grape juice are strong enough to carry it, and pear makes the texture smooth.
If you are new to algae powders, start with a smaller amount. The smoothie works as a fruity morning drink or a snack after sport.
Bartender tips
Start with a quarter teaspoon of chlorella and increase slowly if you like the taste.
Red grape juice gives a darker colour, white grape juice a brighter green.
Variations
With spirulina
Replace the chlorella with the same amount of spirulina for a more blue green colour.
