Pear Watermelon Smoothie with Fresh Mint

Watermelon and mint is one of the great summer pairings. A ripe pear gives it more body, so the result is a smoothie rather than a juice.

Pear Watermelon Smoothie with Fresh Mint

Taste

Cool, light and juicy with sweet watermelon, soft pear and a fresh mint finish.

About this smoothie

Watermelon consists of more than 90 percent water, so it blends into a thin, juicy and very refreshing base. Fresh mint adds a cooling, aromatic note that makes the melon taste even fresher, and a ripe pear contributes fibre and a rounder sweetness. Only a little water is needed. It is a drink for hot afternoons, garden parties or after sport, and it looks lovely in a tall glass with a mint sprig.

Bartender tips

  • Frozen watermelon cubes turn it into a slushy that needs no ice.
  • Use only the mint leaves; the stems taste bitter.

Variations

With lime
A squeeze of lime juice gives it a light mojito-like freshness, without alcohol.

Frequently asked questions

Is it vegan?

Yes. It contains only fruit, mint and water.

Can I use dried mint?

Better not; dried mint tastes dusty. Use cooled peppermint tea instead of water.

Can I prepare it ahead?

Drink it within a few hours; it separates and the mint loses its aroma.
