Pear Lime Smoothie with Kale and Coconut Water

Sweet pear and sharp lime balance each other, and a leaf of kale gives the glass a deep green colour. The flavour is fresh and clean, never grassy.

Taste

Fresh and tangy, with sweet pear, sharp lime and a light earthy green note.

About this smoothie

Pear is one of the best fruits for green smoothies because its soft sweetness covers the earthy taste of kale well. Lime juice adds a sharp, fresh edge and keeps the colour bright. Kale is a good source of vitamin K and vitamin C.

The original recipe used the juice of two limes for two glasses; one small lime per glass is about right. Remove the tough kale stalk before blending. Drink it cold on a warm morning or after exercise.

Bartender tips

  • A ripe pear is essential; hard pears taste bland and grainy.
  • Freeze the pear pieces for a colder, thicker smoothie.

Variations

With spinach
Replace the kale with 30 g baby spinach for a milder taste.
